In this article, From what to eat to what to avoid, we will cover everything you need to know to keep your teeth looking their best.

Stay Away from Staining Foods and Drinks

One of the best ways to maintain a bright, white smile is to stay away from foods and drinks that can stain your teeth.

This includes coffee, tea, red wine, and dark-colored sodas.

If you can’t resist your morning coffee, try drinking it through a straw to minimize contact with your teeth.

You can also rinse your mouth with water after eating or drinking anything that might cause stains.

Your laser teeth whitening treatment is an investment, and to make your new smile last as long as possible, you must take care following your treatment to ensure you provide the best environment for it to flourish.

The first 48 hours following your laser teeth whitening treatment:

Food

It is important to follow a strict ‘white diet’ following your laser teeth whitening treatment in order to avoid any potential for staining or discolouration of your teeth.

As the stain removal procedure opens the pores of your teeth, it is recommended that you follow the white diet for 48 hours immediately after your treatment in order to give your teeth time to readjust.

The white diet means you can only consume white or clear food stuffs to minimise any possibility of staining.

You should also avoid items with a high acidity level such as oranges and lemons, very hot or very cold food, dairy products (other than skimmed milk), food containing wheat (bread and pasta) and anything that you might think would leave a stain on clothing such as bolognese.

We have created a list to help you identify what would and would not be ok to consume in the first 48 hours:

Food and drink you can have:

Meat/fish: turkey, chicken, white fish, Quorn
Fruit/vegetables: bananas, cauliflower, white beans, potatoes but not chips
Carbs: white pitta bread, white rice
Cereal: rice crispies
Sweets: white chewing gum
Dairy: skimmed milk
Soft drinks: still or sparkling water, tonic water, lemonade
Alcohol: vodka, gin, white wine, white rum

Food and drink you should avoid:

Meat/fish: red meat and coloured fish like salmon and tuna
Fruit/vegetables: oranges, lemons, plums, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes, lettuce, beetroot, carrots, sweetcorn, green beans, broccoli, peas, sprouts
Carbs: all bread products including pizza bases, brown rice, coloured pasta
Cereal: coloured cereals, wheat based cereals
Sweets: all sweets and chocolate
Dairy: full fat milk, butter, cream, margarine
Soft drinks: tea, coffee, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Tango, orange juice, Ribena
Alcohol: red wine, beer, port, Baileys

Oral Hygiene

Do not brush your teeth for a few hours after your treatment, if you have a late appointment, brush them the following day.

Only brush your teeth with white toothpaste, do not use coloured toothpaste.

Do not use mouthwash or smoke for at least 24hrs

Maintaining your smile

Once the 48 hours following the treatment have passed, it is still wise to be mindful of the food and drink you are consuming.

Investing in the treatment is just the beginning of your new bright smile.

The results of your treatment can last months, however it is what you do from this point onwards which finally dictates its durability.

Cut down on smoking and alcohol intake.

Tobacco and alcohol can stain your teeth.

It is not necessarily easy to quit entirely, but reducing your intake will give your teeth a better chance.

Brush your teeth regularly and effectively.

Maintaining your bright smile will require more than just the compulsory teeth clean in the morning and the evening.

Try to make a habit of also brushing your teeth after meals to remove anything that might cause a stain – think of it as if you spill something on your clothes – the quicker you treat it, the less likely it is to leave a mark.

Use a straw.

It’s such a simple change you will be wondering why you haven’t done it sooner.

Using a straw when drinking fizzy drinks helps the liquid bypass the front of your teeth altogether, avoiding the potential for staining.

Floss.

Flossing used to be something you only saw on American TV programmes but it is something now we should all get used to doing after meals and before bed.

Flossing reaches the areas your toothbrush can not and removes stray bits of food and build ups of stubborn tartar from between your teeth which can add to discolouration.

Use a whitening toothpaste.

Whitening toothpastes contain a low concentration bleaching agent which helps break down the stains on your teeth and prolong the effects of your whitening treatment.

Eat more dairy.

Dairy contains calcium which is perfect for maintaining healthy looking teeth.

Visit your dentist regularly.

You should go for check ups with your dentist every six months to ensure your teeth are maintained and that you are following a good oral hygiene regime.

Please speak to your dentist if you need further advice on maintaining your new bright smile.

Schedule Regular Dental Cleanings

Regular dental cleanings are important for maintaining good oral health, and they can also help to keep your teeth white.

During a dental cleaning, your dentist will remove any plaque or tartar buildup that might be contributing to discoloration.

They can also give you personalized advice on how to maintain a white smile based on your individual needs.

Maintaining a bright, white smile requires a combination of good oral hygiene and a healthy diet.

By following the tips outlined in this article, you can keep your teeth looking their best after using Ultima White teeth whitening products.

Remember to avoid staining foods and drinks, brush and floss regularly, use a whitening toothpaste, and schedule regular dental cleanings.

With a little bit of effort, you can enjoy a confident, white smile for years to come.
